+ Where to go, Margate and surrounds: we're holidaying in Margate South Africa, what local hotspots are there here?
"You haven't been to Margate if you haven't popped into the Pumphouse!" The Pumphouse, situated in Marine Drive, Manaba Beach on the border of Margate has become a popular spot serving locals and holiday makers from Margate, Shelley beach, Uvongo, Ramsgate, St Michaels and other towns between Port Sheptone, Port Edward and the Wild Coast. Whether you want to meet for drinks or have a meal, the Pumphouse is at your service!

The new owners have decided to keep the name Pumphouse since the property has a wonderful history! From here water was originally pumped through to the area a century ago. Research is currently underway to provide a more thorough history on the specific spot. Watch this space!
+ Pomp Huis - are some people calling the Pumphouse the Pomphuis?
We can only smile. They do indeed! As interestingly enough, whether you're asking in English or asking in Afrikaans or any other language fact remains, this is the old original pumphouse!
Our Afrikaans and other patrons will agree: van hieraf was daar water gepomp - die plek het 'n geskiedenis boys! 'n geskiedenis!

Margate is also just a short drive from the Wild Coast and the Wild Coast Sun. We have noticed that The Pumphouse is a very popular name for various establishments, here in South Africa and abroad! We have even found there is one in Margate England! The new owners continued with the name because of the history of the spot - it really was the original PUMPHOUSE to the region - where water was pumped from to serve the area. Full research is currently underway to present the full history on our website and our facebook page. As Kallie from Binnelanders says: "feite"

+ Do you deal with pumps, water pumps, HCP Pumps?
We get this question often, but no, we do not deal with pumps, water pumps, HCP pumps or any other kind of pumps. Our business is called the Pumphouse based on history of the property, the premises, dating back almost a century, water was pumped from here to feed the area, surrounding areas. We are awaiting a some documented history on the Pumphouse to share with our patrons. In the meantime, our place is pumping! Thanks to our patrons who breathe life into our restaurant/pub on the South Coast, KZN, South Africa.

+ Margate UK (United Kingdom) vs Margate South Africa
How small is the world? Did you know there is a MARGATE UK? We realised that Margate is in the UK as well - we completely realised this while building our website. The Margate where we are located is Margate South Africa, popular seaside resort town and holiday destination. We're actually just on the border of Margate (not Margate UK, Margate South Africa) - our postal address falls within Manaba Beach area. The coastal towns almost form one and are in close proximity to one another (these include, Margate, Manaba Beach, Shelley Beach, Uvongo, St Michaels on Sea, Ramsgte, Port Shepstone, Trafalgar, Muster,Port Edward, Southbroom, Wild Coast. We are also close to San lameer. All this not in the UK but in South Africa.
+ Why Pumphouse at the sea? (pumphouseatthesea)
As covered in some of our previous questions. the name Pumphouse or The Pumphouse is evidently very popular on the internet. Since the name of our restaurant, pub and social venue is Pumphouse we decided to just add a tad of what makes us special so that you can find us on the net, i.e. we're at the sea. So we registered our domain as Pumphouseatthesea (pumphouse-at-the-sea) - cause that's where you can find us and that's what you get when you step onto our deck or sit at place - the ocea, the sea! ... We are fortunate to have a rather nice view to the ocean - the Pumphouse is not on-the-beach but we're damn close to it! Hear it, feel it, see it... we're loving it.
+ Pumphouse bar or Pumphouse pub
Some of our patrons refer to Pumphouse as Pumphouse pub and restuarant while others refer to it as Pumphouse bar and restuarant - we don't mind what you call us, or how you spell our name, some spell it Pumphouse while others leave a space between Pump and house and spell us Pump House. We don't mind what terminology or spelling you use, as long as you pop in and enjoy!
